The Haiku Poets of Central Maryland was founded in 2004 by Elizabeth Fanto and Cathy Drinkwater Better. The group meets bimonthly to discuss haiku and related topics, holds workshops, and produces a bimonthly newsletter The Dragonfly. In 2004 they created the Anita Sadler Weiss Haiku Award in honor of local poet and haiku teacher Anita Sadler Weiss. There was no contest in 2012.
