Our Book of the Week from The Haiku Foundation Digital Library is The First Australian Haiku Anthology, edited by Janice Bostok and John Bird. This book was the first in what has become a substantial shelf of Australian haiku anthologies.
Personally, I love haiku that take me to Australia’s unique local colour, character, flora, and fauna, like these below:
the squirrel glider
floats amongst the eucalypts
the moon in its eye
Across the bay
a flashing grey chain –
a bow legged Blue
master of the tray
no-one left to name
these grave faces
You can read the entire book in the THF Digital Library.
