Doris H. Thurston
February 24, 1924 - March 7, 2017
Doris was born in Kelso, Washington, grew up in Woodland, Washington, went to college in Eugene, Oregon, and in 1989 graduated from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. She also lived in California, Louisiana, Massachusetts and Alaska, eventually settling in Port Townsend, Washington. Her interests in the arts started with music in school, then painting, photography and weaving through family years. Her work appeared in many publications, including Frogpond, Bottle Rockets, The Herons Nest, Starfish, The Auroroean, Copper Canyon Press, Minotaur Press, Cirque Journal, Tidepools, Port Townsend-Jefferson County Leader, Poets Against the War, and varied local organizations including Hospice Newsletter. Among other honors, she was the Featured Poet in the summer quarterly Minotaur Pr. #56 (edited by Jim Watson-Gove).
